GOOD FRIEND Volume 0 is now FREE to read

One way authors try to draw readers to their work is by giving away some of their writing for free. We do this in the hopes that you lovely people will enjoy the snippet you receive from us enough to seek out more of our offerings. It’s a good scheme, and I’ve heard it works for some writers.

I can’t say it has worked for me. At least, not before now.

One main element of the free book scheme involves gathering and maintaining a mailing list and sending regular “newsletter” emails to keep readers engaged (on the hook) and interested. I have discovered that I am terrible at this strategy. I don’t check my email often enough or do any of the other things a serious marketer needs to do to make this an effective tactic to generate sales. It’s just not how I’m wired. I want to write a little on my stories and then lie around naked coming up with more things to write about. Rinse and repeat. I’m a horny chick who gets excited seeing her dirty thoughts splayed out on paper or a screen. I don’t get the slightest bit hot at the thought of a neatly worded sales email. We all have our things, I guess.

On a recent foray into my email inbox, I discovered a message alerting me to the fact that if I didn’t act soon my Mailchimp email list account would be discontinued. Of course, me being me, I didn’t see that email until after the discontinuation date had already passed. So really all of this is to say my Mailchimp got shut down and I don’t want to waste all our time trying to make a new one.

What I am left with, however, is the completed story GOOD FRIEND Volume 0: The Loophole. It is the short story that reveals the origins of the GOOD FRIEND series, with its mysterious website posing the question, “What’s the nicest thing you’ve ever done for a friend?”

My intention was to give the story away to readers who signed up for my mailing list. Once I realized said list was gone, I needed to find another way to get the story out.

In the end I figured, why not simply post it for free on the website?

So that’s what I’ve done. You can now find a link to the complete story,
GOOD FRIEND Volume 0: The Loophole, in the BOOKS section of this website. It is all there in its entirety with nothing to sign up for or download. I hope you will enjoy it and consider checking out the other stories I have published which build upon its premise.

If you want to get in contact with me, shoot me an email to the address on the CONTACT page, hit me up at Goodreads, or follow me on Twitter.
(Just don’t cancel me like a mailing list program if I don’t respond immediately.)

One minute I was down…

And then, as if I had never collapsed into a pile of can’t-deal-with-it, I reached a place where the stories in my head were able to drown out the nastiness of our day-to-day experience here in the USA. Some old characters screamed, “Wake up!” and new characters were waiting there to meet me when I opened my eyes.

Hello again inner fantasy world. I’ve missed you so much.
Now, which one of you dirty ladies should I write about next?

This also allowed me to quit procrastinating and put the finishing touches on RITUAL RIDGE, a short book I intend as a precursor to a longer trilogy of stories set in a post-apocalyptic yet somehow still sexy world in which men have become uncontrollable sex beasts to be fought off (or not) by fierce bands of warrior women. If that sounds as exciting to you as it does to me, please check out RITUAL RIDGE.

I released the book quietly last week with no real promotion plan. To my surprise, it started getting Kindle Unlimited reads right away, more than any of my other books have, even siting for a while #69 in “erotic science fiction” in the Kindle store. To be honest, it went higher than that, but 69 seemed like the appropriate screenshot to grab for my purposes.

So now that I’ve dived into writing the follow up to RITUAL, a whole new group of characters are asking me to start in on their lusty tales. I don’t even want to describe this new scenario, but trust me when I say it’s much further away from the relatively sweet shenanigans of my GOOD FRIEND stories than ONE HIT or RITUAL RIDGE. Mainly because it involves demons and magic. I think it will be a lot of fun.

With any luck, you’ll be able to judge for yourself soon.

ONE HIT for FREE

My most recent book, ONE HIT, is FREE August 6-10, 2018 for Kindle.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076QC7CTG

So yeah, it took me close to a year to do any kind of promotional giveaway for this. I’d like to say it is because the response has been so overwhelming I haven’t had time to properly advertise or promote the book. I’d love to say that, in fact.

What I can say is that I truly love this story and have been developing a trilogy of full-length novels that will follow the further adventures of one of its characters. I guess you’ll have to find out what character lives to figure out which.

In other news, my daily horror/panic spasms at the state of our country have receded enough to allow me to finally eke out a new short story. It’s called RITUAL RIDGE and I’m hoping to have it out within a few weeks, after some beta readers have had their way with it. Like ONE HIT, it mixes a portion of violence into the smut, this time with a hellish post-apocalyptic setting. (And yet it still somehow seems more pleasant than the current administration.)

Stay strong out there. Find joy where you can.

I’ll be back before too long.

I have a new plan.

It’s really a modification of an older plan that I’ve had for some time, but my hope is that if I spell it out here it will motivate me to put it in motion and kick things into higher gear with my writing.

I recently changed direction with my storytelling and published ONE HIT, which is still erotica but is also a story about an assassin carrying out a deadly mission in a much darker world than what I presented before. The GOOD FRIEND series on the other hand is about sex from different perspectives, but everyone in those stories live in what is essentially the real world. Their reality is no more dark than ours. In fact, given the state of politics over the last year, I’d say their world may be a fair amount lighter than ours. If I decided to branch out in that series and include a story that had more fantastic elements or took place in another time it would probably feel jarring.

But I want to tell stories like that.

I have wild things in my head and I want to lay them out on the page for display. Dirty sex stories can happen in post-apocalyptic wastelands and steampunk-themed imagined pasts. There may well be a guild of sex-assassins taking out high profile billionaire bad boys after rocking their worlds in upscale hotel rooms and fantasy-themed suites in the secret realms of the fabulously wealthy. Why not? Naughty games at the highest levels of politics? Sure (might not even be fiction). Sex zombies? Maybe. I think of a lot a wacky stuff and I need an outlet. My ladies need to get it on and conquer men in more realms than those I’ve previously explored.

So that’s where my new series comes in. I’m calling it ONE HOFF.

The “H” is silent.
Get it?

ONE HIT will technically be #1 in this anthology series, although I reserve the right to change my mind about that as I have a trilogy partially written already in the same world as that story. So maybe #1 will be the next book I write. I already have a story about a time-traveling knight competing for my time with a horror-ish tale about a young starlet lost at sea with a lecherous producer awakening something tentacled and hungry from the ocean depths. These don’t fit in with what has come before. Maybe I’ll write both of those and then cool down with another pleasant addition to the GOOD FRIEND series. I may want to alternate between neighbors doing favors and demons seeking innocent flesh. I suppose I could always write these darker stories under a pen name, but I don’t want to.

So that’s my plan. Like most everything else I do, I won’t seek advice or weigh my options much. I’ll just go for it and see how it all comes out in the wash.

Let’s see how it goes.
